This was my first full winter as a mom. During the past few months, I experienced anew the many joys of the season – the first snowfall, Christmas, the insane cuteness of a snowsuit, the difficulty of wrangling a toddler into a stroller + stroller muff + rain cover while wearing said snowsuit, and colds…so. many. colds. I feel like I went through immunity bootcamp this winter – as Rose’s immune system was built up, mine was tested…and tested…and tested. Every few weeks, I came to expect another bug. Spring officially began two days ago, (although today’s high of 36 degrees would not have you believe it), and I am hoping the change in season means an end to the monthly onslaught of colds.
In the meantime, I am fighting yet another cold this week and have turned to one of my favorite remedies. This winter, I took to making this smoothie at the onset of cold symptoms. It draws on an arsenal of powerful immune-boosting ingredients to fight bugs. But it is also just generally delicious for any time! It is slightly spicy, citrusy, tropical, and creamy. The flavors meld together into a smoothie that tastes sort of like a a golden milk latte meets pina colada meets creamsicle. My daughter, Rose, loves this smoothie, too.
Be sure to include the black pepper, which helps unlock the anti-inflammatory properties of the turmeric.
Enjoy!
